medicare
made simple
Medicare Part A:
• Covers hospital/inpatient care • No premium if you worked 40 quarters
in the United States.
• Begins the 1st day of the month you
turn 65 UNLESS your birthday is the
1st day of the month. In this case, your
Medicare will become effective the 1st of
the month PRIOR to your birth month.
• Has a deductible per stay
Medicare Part B:
• Covers medical services • Has an annual premium that can
increase based on your income
• You can delay Part B if you intend to
continue working and remain on a
group plan
• Has an annual deductible. Once the
deductible is met, Medicare will cover
80% for medically necessary care.
Medicare Part D:
• Prescription DrugCoverage
• Sold through private insurance
companies. Premium, deductibles, and
costs will vary by plan
• Optional, but there is a penalty for
delaying Part D past your 65th birthday
if you do NOT have other creditable
coverage.
Medigap:
• Fills in the“gaps” of Medicare
• Most popular plans are Plan G & N • 6-month open enrollment period to
enroll when you turn 65.
• Once enrolled, changing plans may
require you to “health qualify”

accepted, Medigap plans will be too.
• Premium will vary by plan and location,
but the PLAN will not. A Plan G is a Plan
G, regardless of which company you sign
up with.

coverage
• A local agent can help you compare all
options to assure you choose a plan that
best suits your needs.
